Why the DPIP category it represents is the most important conversation in software delivery right now.

I’m proud to share that Opsera has been named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Developer Productivity Insight Platforms, recognized for both Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute. Of all the Leaders in this year’s report, Opsera is placed furthest in Completeness of Vision.

That recognition matters to me — not as a marketing credential, but as a signal that the problem we’ve been focused on is the right one. And I want to be direct about what that problem actually is, because I think the industry is still in the early stages of understanding it.

The question underneath the question

A few years ago, the central question in engineering measurement was straightforward: how do we know if our teams are moving fast? DORA metrics gave us a language. Cycle time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, mean time to recovery… These became the vocabulary of engineering health, and rightly so.

But the arrival of AI coding tools has changed the question underneath the question. AI assistants are dramatically accelerating individual developer velocity. Gartner says “By 2028, 90% of developer productivity insight platforms will support workflow automation and contextual guidance, driving a shift from manager-focused dashboards to developer-focused enablement.” The relevant question is no longer just “are we moving fast?” It’s “what are we actually producing, how are they tied to business outcomes and value, at what cost, at what quality, and with what risk?”

That’s the problem Opsera’s Unified Insights was built to answer. And it’s a harder problem than it looks.

Measurement and governance are not the same thing

Here’s the tension I’ve watched play out with our customers repeatedly: organizations invest in AI coding tools, developers report feeling more productive, individual metrics improve and then, a quarter later, there’s an incident. A security vulnerability that slipped through. A pipeline failure rate that quietly crept up. A compliance audit that couldn’t be answered because the audit trail didn’t exist.

Our own data, across more than 250,000 developers, tells this story clearly. AI-generated code contains 15–18% more security vulnerabilities than human-written code. AI-generated PRs wait 4.6x longer for review. Code duplication increases as AI volume grows. The inner loop gets faster. The outer loop absorbs the debt.

This is the distinction that matters most as this market matures. Measurement tells you what happened. Governance determines what’s allowed to happen. Most platforms in this DPIP category are built to do the former and the latter is where the real enterprise value lives. Opsera is built to do both.

Enterprises including Cisco, Honeywell, Sephora, and Eaton are already relying on Opsera for exactly this reason, not just to see what their engineering teams are producing, but to govern that output from code to cloud.

What “furthest Completeness of Vision” means to me

Gartner’s analysts spend their careers studying this space and where it is heading. We believe this recognition tells us that we are on the right track. We’re building a platform that governs the full planning, build and code-to-cloud journey: shifting compliance left into the inner-loop so code arrives at pipelines already validated, enforcing policy in pipelines and in agentic workflows, and connecting everything across every commit, every pipeline run, every deployment event  to the business outcomes that boards and CFOs are now asking about.

Central to that is Hummingbird AI, our built-in assistant that draws from a unified data layer spanning resource utilization, investment spectrum, software capitalization,  tool usage, pipeline events, security and quality posture, DORA and SPACE metrics and deployment outcomes. It gives engineering leaders answers in plain language, without a data team in the middle and connects directly to the toolchain where action can be taken, not just observed. No other platform in this category has that cross-domain visibility built in.

What engineering leaders should actually do with this

If you’re trying to make a real platform decision, my honest advice is this: start with the questions your organization is actually failing to answer, not the questions a vendor demo is designed to make look easy.

If your CFO is asking what you got from your AI tooling investment and you don’t have a defensible answer, that’s a real problem. If your CISO is asking whether AI-generated code is meeting your security standards and the answer is “probably,” that’s a real problem. If you’re running dozens of pipeline tools across multiple business units and nobody has a unified view of delivery health, that’s a real problem.

A productivity insights platform that measures well but can’t enforce anything is a very expensive dashboard. The right question to ask any vendor in this space, including us, is not just “what can you show me?” but “what can you do about it?”

We believe this Gartner recognition validates that this is the question the category needs to be answering. It’s the question we’ve built Opsera to answer. And if the placement is any indication, the market is starting to agree.

The journey from code to production has never been more consequential

AI is writing more code than ever before. Agents are making architectural decisions. Infrastructure is being updated overnight. The organizations that govern that journey well — that enforce quality and security at every stage, measure what it actually produces, and connect it all to business value — are going to outperform the ones that don’t.
